The perennial borders, at the nursery, in my test gardens -- experiments for new varieties in different situations, sun or shade -- are a way to stay artistically engaged and current with the trade.
This xeriscape garden by the river is located in an estate in Star, Idaho.
Native plants: Big Basin Sage, agaves (new for the Boise area), drifts of variegated 'Tiger Eyes' Sumac (new to the trade), and ornamental grasses & lavender varieties are an eclectic mix of plants liking the same drought-tolerant conditions.
This xeriscape, at the edge of the Boise foothills, includes a Yucca rostrata, a variety like a palm and new to this area, hardy 'Karl Fuche' Deodar cedar, agaves, grasses, and cacti, seemlessly fit this dry application.
